FAQ

What is UnderMarket Cars?

A free search engine that finds the cheapest new and used cars in the US and shows how far each deal sits under the market median price.

Where does the data come from?

Active dealer listings aggregated across the USA, deduplicated by VIN and cleaned of mislabeled and anomalous prices.

How is the market median calculated?

For every make and model we take the asking prices of all active, deduplicated US dealer listings and use the middle value. Each "under median" figure is simply the gap between a listing's price and that median.

How are fake prices filtered out?

Listings are dropped when the numbers can't be real: a price that's really a down payment or an auction opening bid, a VIN that belongs to a different brand, or an odometer reading that contradicts the car's age. Cheap old high-mileage cars are kept — that's the real bottom of the market.
